“Tonight’s Pengalaman Prangin was a captivating journey through time and memory.” – Ayu Idris via ig
“这是一场体验感超棒的活动。结合流动演出,戏剧、时间旅行和集体体验,探索记忆、历史和地貌与建筑环境之间的空间和故事。” – Jill Siang Ne via fb
“It is also unlike a city tour, as it does not directly introduce the history of buildings or streets. The director, Ridhwan Saidi, drawing on a profound insight into the historical texture of space (the city), skillfully employs a sound strategy combined with meticulously researched history to create a disorienting experience where different historical ghosts are simultaneously present.“ – Ngo Tjer Hong (full review; also the same writeup in Chinese)
“Penampakan hantu amoi di pinggir sungai Sia Boey.” – Regina Ibrahim via fb
“A walking experience around parts of George Town tapping into the past while contemplating the present.” – Shaifulbahri Mohamad
“I cried 3 times in its 75 minutes, partly because of how beautiful the experience is, and mainly because my inner child was made safe and joyful, with the support of an entire community – RELA, the local council, and everyone, really – something the KL art scene isn’t as privileged to access.“ – Mia Sabrina Mahadir via ig
“Thank you all for bringing me through time.“ – tharwakarina via ig
Pengalaman Prangin is a speculative roving performance that is part theatre, part time-travel, and part collective experience on memory, history and spatial sensibilities between geomorphology and the built environment.
Participants will be guided to walk and cycle around Sia Boey Urban Archaeological Park leading up towards Lorong Prangin. From Sia Boey Market to Beach Street’s past as a coastal road, participants will listen to audio narration and soundscapes and experience live performances scattered throughout the route, each offering a speculative interpretation of the cultural, historical, and urban morphology tapestry that George Town has evolved into.
The past is not a distant memory—it is ever-present in its lingering traces, inviting participants to explore and uncover. With each step or pedal, unveil new narratives and see familiar streets, alleyways and corners in a brand new light.
Pengalaman Prangin is produced by Moka Mocha Ink in collaboration with Siring Siring Production and Ensembel Teater Kaos Nol.
